Investigators, ready yourselves. Candela Obscura needs you!

The Candela Obscura Core Rulebook is a fully detailed guide on playing and gamemastering the collaborative investigative horror tabletop roleplaying game. As an investigator of the paranormal secret society Candela Obscura, you and your circle are charged with exploring, fighting, and protecting the people of Newfaire from supernatural dangers lurking in the folds of a bustling world unaware of the occult magick simmering beneath. Candela Obscura is the very first game to use the Illuminated Worlds System as well as the first full RPG from Darrington Press, as featured in the ongoing anthology series on Critical Role.

Inside of the Candela Obscura Core Rulebook you’ll discover:

  • 204 detailed pages, with a satin ribbon to keep your place.
  • The core rules to play and create your Candela Obscura investigators and their circles.
  • Over 90 pages detailing the turn of the century-inspired setting of the Fairelands, and in detail the city of Newfaire and the ancient ruins beneath known as Oldfaire.
  • 4 full example assignments for gamemasters to dive in with their players.
  • Over 30 example assignments to explore far-flung corners of the Fairelands and the organizations and people operating within it.
  • An extensive guide to preparing for and gamemastering Candela Obscura.
  • Immersive, in-world ephemera and notes strewn throughout the chapters—illustrations, sketches, research notes, correspondences, advertisements, maps, and more to bring the Fairelands to life.
Now is your time to accept the call of Candela Obscura! Ready your dice and accessories and get ready to play!

A wonderful dark world of Victoriana magic

I've not actually finished reading this book yet cause stupid work getting in the way of fun, but I've been sneaking off work to finish it faster! I'm loving this game so much. The world is amazing. Dark and filled with lethal, hidden magic. The classes are so fun, each with unique skills and I'm loving the mechanics. I greatly prefer dice pools to d20 and I love the drive mechanic to help you push your character to push fate. I can't wait to play this as either player or GM. My only critism would be the packing when the book was shipped. I used a knife to gently cut through the tape but the book was actually pressed directly against the packaging mean I ended up marking what is a beautiful book

Package needed pluriball or protection

The product was perfect, but the package was not. It was very little, a perfect fit for the book. There was some scotch, I cut that with scissors with very little pressure (just to open it) and I found out th book was very adherent to the cardboard box, with no protection at all, esulting me in scratching the book. Nothing too bad, but still a little bit disappointing

perfect

I've been using this as my main game to GM and I've had so much fun. Great for spooky ttrpgs and great mechanics to get new ttrpg players invested and understanding how to play

Can't fault the game system or the game book at all. It's beautiful too which is a joy.

Stand out points: great for new GM or players new to ttrpg
Simple system to teach and learn.

Focus on everyone at the table contributing and having a great time.
Fast character creation. Slick character sheets.
